The Physiotherapy Innovation Laboratory is a research group based within the Department of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation at University of Northumbria at Newcastle

Our research involves a translational multidisciplinary approach to understand human movement and develop novel clinical assessment and rehabilitation tools

We work across a variety of clinical research areas, specifically; 

  • Mechanistic understanding of how the brain controls movement

  • Age-related and neurological disorders

  • Digital health and novel technology for clinical assessment and rehabilitation

Northumbria’s vision for improving treatments for Parkinson’s disease

Dr Stuart talks about ongoing PhD work by Julia Das

Northumbria University is leading research on the effects of technological visual training as a potential rehabilitation tool for people affected by Parkinson’s disease.

Dr Sam Stuart, a senior researcher in the Department of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation at Northumbria, is working with American company, Senaptec, an industry leader in the design and production of sensory performance assessment.
